Stand on Hồ Huấn Nghiệp street in the early evening and look up. The windows and balconies of The Myst Dong Khoi are scattered across the facade in an unusual pattern, with plants spilling over the edge of every floor. The Michelin Guide describes the building in much the same terms. In short, The Myst Dong Khoi awards fall into three groups: two titles at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2025, a place in the Michelin Guide’s hotel selection, and Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice 2026. Each comes from a different kind of judge, working in a different way. This guide takes them one at a time, so you know what each can and cannot tell you before you book.

At a glance. The World Luxury Hotel Awards 2025 named the hotel Global Winner in the Luxury Cultural Hotel category and Country Winner for Vietnam in the Luxury Art Boutique Hotel category. The hotel is part of the Michelin Guide’s hotel selection, which counted more than 7,000 properties worldwide in October 2025. Tripadvisor gives Travelers’ Choice to the top 10% of listings, based on 12 months of reviews and ratings.

Three kinds of judge

The simplest way to keep them apart is to picture who holds the pen. The World Luxury Hotel Awards work like a public vote: hotels enter categories, and anyone can go online and vote. The Michelin Guide is closer to an edited handbook, where inspectors visit and decide who makes the cut. Travelers’ Choice is more like a scoreboard, added up from the reviews guests write after they stay.

The three complement one another. None of them can tell you which room will suit you.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards 2025: a vote by category

The World Luxury Hotel Awards were established in 2006. According to the organisers, luxury hotels can nominate themselves or be nominated by guests, travel agents or tour operators. During the voting season anyone can vote online, and the awards attract more than 300,000 votes a year. Each email address gets one vote per hotel.

The organisers say judging is based on service delivery, luxury and presentation. Hotels compete at four levels, country, regional, continent and global, and only against properties in the same category, so a cultural hotel is never weighed against a safari lodge or a private villa. Winners are announced at a gala ceremony.

The full steps are set out on the World Luxury Hotel Awards procedure page. The Myst Dong Khoi announced its 2025 results on 17 November 2025.

Two titles, two different things

Skim the headlines and you might think the hotel won the same award twice. It did not. These are two separate categories, at two levels.

Global Winner, Luxury Cultural Hotel, is a global title, the highest of the four levels. The category name says most of it: a luxury hotel with culture at its core. At The Myst Dong Khoi that culture is something you can put your hand on. Reclaimed timber and metal from the Ba Son shipyard, demolished in 2015, sit alongside wrought-iron flower motifs, Marseille roof tiles, stained glass and the hotel’s signature scent of ngọc lan, or ylang-ylang.

Country Winner for Vietnam, Luxury Art Boutique Hotel, is a national title: the winner of that category among the Vietnamese hotels taking part. The introduction the hotel prepared for the awards describes rooms with wooden floors, antiques, mythological paintings, teak carvings, ceramic drums and wrought-iron rails, all echoing the old shophouses of Saigon.

So one title measures the hotel against cultural hotels around the world, and the other against art hotels at home. For the thinking behind the Ba Son materials and iron flowers, read where each old Saigon design detail comes from. There is a separate piece on how a cultural luxury hotel differs from a themed one.

The Michelin Guide: what being in the selection means

The Michelin Guide first appeared in 1900, when fewer than 3,000 cars were on the roads of France. The tyre-making brothers André and Édouard Michelin published it for motorists, hoping more driving would mean more tyres sold. Everyone has heard of the stars for restaurants. The hotel side gets far less attention. The history of the Michelin Guide is on Wikipedia.

In October 2023 Michelin announced a distinction of its own for hotels, the Key, awarded from 2024. There are three levels: one Key marks “a very special stay”, two Keys “an exceptional stay” and three Keys “an extraordinary stay”. Inspectors assess hotels against five criteria: architecture and interior design; quality and consistency of service; personality and character; value for the price; and a contribution to the neighbourhood or setting.

The selection and the Keys are two layers. According to Michelin’s October 2025 hotel figures, the worldwide selection includes more than 7,000 hotels, of which 2,457 hold Keys: 1,742 with one, 572 with two and 143 with three. The rest are still recommended by Michelin, simply without a Key, and a place in the selection carries no ranking.

The Myst Dong Khoi is part of the Michelin Guide’s hotel selection, and this article goes no further than that.

Michelin’s own description calls the building “a modernist tower whose windows and balconies stud the facade in an unusual pattern, while bursting forth with leafy plants”. Inside, it notes objets d’art, hardwood flooring, stained glass and wrought-iron accents in rooms inspired by local homes. The full text is gathered on our page collecting the Michelin Guide’s notes on the hotel.

Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice 2026: scores from the guests themselves

The third recognition works differently again. Tripadvisor bases Travelers’ Choice on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings posted over a 12-month period, plus an editorial process. Winners sit among the top 10% of listings on Tripadvisor. Best of the Best is a far narrower group, the top 1%, so it pays to read the name on the badge.

To be eligible, a place must have been listed on Tripadvisor for at least 12 months, receive a threshold number of reviews in the period and keep at least a minimum bubble rating. Places can be ruled out for serious safety incidents or fraudulent reviews, among other reasons. The details are on Tripadvisor’s explanation of how Travelers’ Choice works.

The Myst Dong Khoi received Travelers’ Choice 2026. The badge’s value lies in numbers: many guests, at different times of year, scoring the hotel highly.

What awards can and cannot tell you

Each of these carries weight. Each has blind spots too.

The World Luxury Hotel Awards come from votes, so the result depends on who turns out to vote, and a title speaks only to the category the hotel entered, in that year. The 2025 cultural title says many voters valued the hotel’s cultural side, and nothing about the pool or the breakfast.

The Michelin Guide reflects inspectors’ judgement at the time they assessed. Being selected means professionals have looked and chosen, but the selection does not rank hotels against one another.

Travelers’ Choice is an average of many tastes, gathered over the previous 12 months. It looks backwards. Your own stay will still depend on the season, the room and whether you are travelling alone or with family, and no average knows whether you are a light sleeper.

None of the three tells you the rate on the day you book, which rooms are free, or whether breakfast is part of the price.

How to use awards when you book

Awards work best as a filter. Then check a few things yourself.

  1. Check the year and the full title. Global Winner and Country Winner are different things, and each title belongs to one year. The full category name tells you what it won.
  2. Go to the source. Michelin has a page for every hotel in its selection, and the other two publish their winners.
  3. Read recent reviews for what matters to you. Travelling for work, search for Wi-Fi and check-out times. On holiday, look for the pool, the bathtub and how quiet the rooms are.
  4. Ask the reservations team what awards cannot answer. The Myst Dong Khoi has six room categories from 40 to 70 m², each with a private balcony and a deep soaking tub. Breakfast is usually included depending on the rate, so confirm it when you book. Browse room sizes and features for all six categories first.
  5. Match it to your own needs. What guests actually find at The Myst Dong Khoi covers comfort and quiet.

Frequently asked questions

What awards has The Myst Dong Khoi won?

At the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2025, The Myst Dong Khoi was named Global Winner in the Luxury Cultural Hotel category and Country Winner for Vietnam in the Luxury Art Boutique Hotel category. The hotel is also part of the Michelin Guide’s hotel selection and received Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice 2026.

How are World Luxury Hotel Awards winners chosen?

The World Luxury Hotel Awards, established in 2006, are decided by an online public vote. Hotels nominate themselves or are nominated by guests, travel agents or tour operators. Anyone can vote during the voting season, with one vote per email address per hotel, and the awards attract more than 300,000 votes a year. Judging is based on service delivery, luxury and presentation.

What is the difference between a Global Winner and a Country Winner?

At the World Luxury Hotel Awards, hotels compete at four levels, country, regional, continent and global, and only against hotels in the same category. A Country Winner takes its category at national level, while a Global Winner takes it at global level. In 2025 The Myst Dong Khoi received one of each, in two different categories.

Is being in the Michelin Guide the same as holding a Michelin Key?

No. The Michelin Guide’s hotel selection covers more than 7,000 hotels, while the Key is a separate distinction with three levels. Michelin’s October 2025 figures show 2,457 hotels holding Keys. Inspectors award Keys against five criteria, from architecture and service to character, value and contribution to the neighbourhood. The Myst Dong Khoi is part of the selection.

How does Tripadvisor decide Travelers’ Choice 2026?

Travelers’ Choice is based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings posted on Tripadvisor over 12 months, plus an editorial process. Winners are among the top 10% of listings, while Best of the Best covers the top 1%. To qualify, a place must have been listed for at least 12 months, receive enough reviews and keep a minimum rating.

Should I choose a hotel on awards alone?

Awards are a good way to narrow a shortlist, but treat them as a starting point. Each measures one thing: public votes, inspectors’ judgement or an average of guest scores. None tells you which rooms are available, the rate on your dates or whether breakfast is included. After that, read recent reviews and ask the reservations team.

See it for yourself

Awards only tell part of the story. The rest is in a planted balcony, a long soak after a day on foot and a morning coffee at Bason Café on the ground floor. From 6-8 Hồ Huấn Nghiệp, the Nguyễn Huệ walking street is about four minutes away.
